The Terra Barocca is undoubtedly one of the most fascinating and evocative tourist destinations in Sicily. The three Dutch travel bloggers, Tim Vermeer, Shauna Mols and Anne Claessens, who had an extraordinary five-day experience in the Terra Barocca, thanks to the first phase of the “Social Trip” promoted by the DMO Enjoy Barocco.
An extraordinary experience during Holy Week
During Holy Week, travel bloggers discovered the wonders of this unique destination, immersing themselves in the rituals, services and folk festivals. They visited the towns of Ragusa, Modica, Scicli, Ispica and Santa Croce Camerina, exploring centuries-old traditions and fascinating religious celebrations, as well as tasting the excellent food and wine products that characterize this land.
Baroque monuments and religious traditions
Enjoy Barocco invited bloggers to discover the beauty of Baroque monuments and the rich history and culture of the Baroque Land. During the “Social Trip,” they witnessed the Madonna Vasa Vasa in Modica, an emotional celebration in which the statue of the Madonna leaves her black mourning cloak and kisses the Risen Christ. They then attended the Gioia festival in Scicli, one of the most beautiful festivals in Sicily, where the statue of the Risen Christ is carried in procession in a frenetic and evocative rhythm.
Gastronomic delights and culinary experiences
The travel bloggers also discovered local gastronomy, another of the Baroque Land’s main attractions. They tasted specialties such as “scacce,” meat “pastizzi,” cassatelle di ricotta and the famous Modica chocolate. They made chocolate in the museum of the same name and tasted hot ricotta from the Massari company after a visit to the Donnafugata Castle. It was a real journey through the flavors and aromas of Sicilian tradition.
An itinerary rich in history and natural beauty
During their stay, the bloggers explored Baroque churches, aristocratic palaces, and golden beach shores. They visited the Convent of Santa Maria del Gesù in Modica, the Fornace Penna in Scicli, and Cava Ispica. It was a unique experience that allowed them to experience the true essence of Baroque Sicily.
Extraordinary welcome and hospitality
The bloggers enjoyed the reception at the Palazzo degli Antoci in Ragusa, with its breakfasts inside the sumptuous Art Nouveau halls, and the Cozzo di Papaleo farmhouse, with breathtaking views of the sea at sunset. They rode Rasi Rent’s electric bikes at the Marina di Ragusa marina and ebike motion through the alleys of Ibla, enjoying moonlight reflections on the Mediterranean from the exclusive Varo a mare beach at Punta Braccetto.
Sensory experiences and craft traditions
The bloggers explored the Valentine’s Nurseries, where they participated in a workshop on bread making with ancient flours and grains in the connected Residences. This sensory experience further enriched their journey, allowing them to immerse themselves in local scents and traditions.
