From hidden beaches and pristine reserves to long sandy shorelines complete with every amenity, the coast of Terra Barocca is capable of intriguing every kind of visitor, offering a unique spectacle to the eye at every kilometer and a new experience to be had at every stop. Impossible to compile a complete list of every marine pearl of the Hyblaean coast in a few lines, we list some of the most characteristic ones.
One of the most important seaside destinations is definitely Marina di Ragusa, the rich seaside resort offers many amenities. Long and vast coastline of golden sand, shallow and crystal clear sea, free or equipped beaches, hotels, restaurants, stores, bike path, a beautiful marina, relaxation but also liveliness, in short there is something for everyone, as certified also by the blue flag for the clear sea and the green flag for family-friendly beaches! The beach of Randello, between Punta Braccetto and Scoglitti, two other stunning seaside resorts, offers a wilder experience instead. Set in the Randello State Forest Nature Reserve, the dense pine forest opens onto a vast unspoiled beach, which with its characteristic dunes will captivate. In the area also the ruins of some necropolis. For those who like to immerse themselves in rough landscapes, a visit to the Macchia Foresta del Fiume Irminio Nature Reserve is not to be missed, a corner of paradise where typical Mediterranean scrub and characteristic sand dunes surround the mouth of the Irminio River and are home to a rich flora and fauna.
Cheerful and colorful, Punta Secca cannot be missed in the itinerary, whether summer or winter. Its ancient lighthouse dominates the landscape, becoming a characteristic element for postcard photos. Restaurants and ice cream parlors alternate from here, refreshing visitors with delicious granitas or refreshing aperitifs. It is here that Commissioner Montalbano‘s famous house is located, with its incredible view of the small beach from which it seems as if the latter can be seen diving into a new swim, ready to solve the next case.
A few kilometers from the town of Ispica, there are some of the most characteristic seaside places. Sandy beaches, coves and stacks in an uncontaminated sea, true glimpses of paradisiacal beauty! The beach of Porto Ulisse isdelimited by the rocky promontory of Punta Castellazzo, characterized by a small inlet with sandy beach, calm waters and the stacks. Right here according to legend came the king of Ithaca during his wanderings through the waters of the Mediterranean. Not far away is the beach of Punta Cirica (or Ciriga), surrounded by typical Mediterranean scrub, white tuff rocks, caves, stacks, small coves and crystal clear sea: a fantastic sight. Peace and crystal clear sea with shallow waters are the characteristics of Marina Marza, a perfect location even for the little ones. Another beach not to be missed is that of Santa Maria del Focallo, fine golden sand and small dunes flanked by protected spontaneous vegetation, make the place among the most picturesque in the area.
And what about Donnalucata, with its characteristic seafront promenade still capable of preserving the ancient charm of yesteryear. Or yet Sampieri, charming fishing village by day, lively nightlife destination by night. The long golden beach stretches to the Fornace Penna, a fascinating example of industrial archaeology that from its promontory enriches the landscape, becoming a link between sky and sea.
